Pigeon Groups' Near-Term GHG Emission Reduction Targets Validated by the SBTi

Pigeon Corporation (Headquarters: Tokyo, President and CEO: Ryo Yano) has received validated for its near-term science-based targets (SBT) from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)*1. This certification acknowledges that the Pigeon Group's 2030 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets are scientifically grounded and aligned with the levels set by the Paris Agreement.

Pigeon Group has identified "Reducing our Environmental Impact" as one of its key issues (Materiality) and formulated the Pigeon Green Action Plan to leave a rich Earth for the future of babies born tomorrow in 2022.
Under this plan, the Pigeon Group will focus on addressing climate change, plastic waste, and biodiversity loss, which are particularly relevant to its business activities. The Group aims to reduce its environmental impact by setting medium- to long-term targets towards decarbonization, a circular economy, and harmonious coexistence with nature.
*1 The SBTi is an international climate change initiative jointly established by the United Nations Global Compact, CDP (an international NGO tackling climate change and related issues), WRI (World Resources Institute), and WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). And SBTi promotes companies to set science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in order to achieve the Paris Agreement goals.
*2 Scope 1 refers to direct greenhouse gas emissions from in-house fuel use, etc., and Scope 2 refers to indirect greenhouse gas emissions from purchased electricity and heat.
*3 Scope 3 refers to indirect emissions other than Scope 1 and Scope 2; Category 1 refers to emissions associated with purchased products and services, and Category 12 refers to emissions associated with the disposal of sold products.
