From 2021 to 2023, Pigeon donated ¥10 million every year through the corporate hometown tax system to Hitachi-Omiya City in Ibaraki Prefecture. Using the donation, in June 2022, the city opened Pigeon Park at Hitachi-Omiya Kawa Plaza, a local roadside rest area (michi no eki) and added more play equipment.
Hitachi-Omiya Kawa Plaza was originally opened in 2016 as part of Hitachi-Omiya’s efforts to become “a city of rich natural beauty, harmonious security, and pleasant vitality.” In the years since, it has been used by many people as a place for relaxation, a center for sharing superb local products and promoting the region’s many charms, and as a space for interaction and exchange of many kinds.
Pigeon Park, created to support the local community’s development as an area where residents can feel confident about having and raising children, is a space designed to be welcoming to all kinds of people with young children. It contains a range of play equipment carefully chosen to be as fun as possible for a wide range of visitors, including small children and wheelchair-using children.
Pigeon will continue engaging with local governments as well as other corporations and organizations as it pursues a range of activities seeking to make children an everyday sight in the community.
